In denial about the summer ending? Me too. That’s when I go into the archives and dig up juicy memories, like my recent trip to the Orange County Fair.

So let’s see how things were at the OC Fair this year. If you’ve never been, it’s a must.
“Gandalf’s Wave Rave” combines Lord of the Rings with Southern California, meaning you will yack after riding.
Splash Mountain is back up and running after a recent rehab removed the mountain over budgetary issues.
Due to the drought, Splash Mountain has replaced the water with reclaimed pee.
Took a ride on “Only a Matter of Time.”
The Fair was surprisingly empty. Only 50,000 people or so.
It’s unfortunate they have to charge $12 per person, but that keeps the crowd to a minimum. Could you imagine if they only charged $8? Complete pandemonium!
At last, the moment you’ve been waiting for.
Moist, succulent ribs for your viewing pleasure.
Foot longs and plenty of meat.
All jokes aside, those bacon-wrapped dogs were heavenly. I enjoyed them that afternoon, and they were the gift that kept on giving later that evening as well.
Bacon-wrapped turkey legs may possibly be Man’s greatest creation.
These mongo burgers were so huge, they reminded me of the parasites from Season 1 Episode 29, “Operation: Annihilate!”
Mongo Burgers, Spock! Dammit, Spock!
What they do is they inject a shot of Jack Daniels into a mini churro, wrap it in bacon, then deep fry it. No spank you.
I elected for a healthier alternative, like these deep fried Oreos.
Time to wash it down old school style.
And had to wash down the Orange Julius, of course, with some wine tasting.
Nighttime at the OC Fair brings out the crazies, or in other words, the under 18’s.
I mean, straight out of a horror movie.
Oh, the delectable horror of tri tip on the spit. The horror!
Ending the evening with a ride on “Only a Matter of Time.”

So in actuality, the fair is a fun, festive experience. Quality entertainment, fantastic food, any indulgence you can think of.
I actually enjoy the energy the large crowds bring, but if that isn’t your thing, midweek mid-afternoon is the way to go for you.
