[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]I always wanted these weapons growing up. I think I still do.
10. The Glaive from Krull.
There is only one like it in existence. Thus, if your name is Colwyn and you are the Chosen One, you can wield it. Used primarily for sneak attacks, with razor-sharp blades affixed to a starfish-esque design, the Glaive is a kind of “Chinese throwing star” weapon with a supernatural influence that allows Colwyn to control its movements with his mind. Provided you don’t accidentally lodge it into the body of a giant monster, the Glaive will return to you. Effective, small, silent, but deadly.
9. A 1960’s Star Trek Original Series Phaser.
Why this version? The effectiveness is in its light weight. Seemingly weighing in at only a few grams, a Starfleet officer can easily velcrow this weapon to his side. Its more intimidating and effective than its baby cousin, the tiny hand phaser. More often than not, it’s used as a simply peacekeeper in stun-setting mode rather than disintegration, and comes in handy to warm up a rock or start a fire on cold alien worlds. Diverse and powerful.
8. The M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens.
Complete intimidation in one weapon. You’re not going to sneak up and snipe a target from afar with this bad boy. But at 300 rounds a clip, you’re going to absolutely devastate any aliens, and anything else in the room, at close range. Be sure to stand back though – the reckless burst of fire can spray acidic blood all over you if you’re not careful. When it doubt, use the grenade launcher to explode your target into a thousand pieces.
7. Dual-barrelled laser gun from The Black Hole.
It looks like Star Lord from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy has a weapon inspired by this original classic, unlike anything ever scene in any other science fiction film. While designed a robot infantry, a human can make use of the double barrels to increase the scope of the devastation. Basically, it increases your odds that you’ll hit your target. This is also among the more aesthetically pleasing weapons to watch on cinema.
6. The Weirding Module from Dune.
Its power is directly proportional to how mentally strong its user is. Some are simply unable to comprehend its usage, and this makes it extremely dangerous. Indeed, feeling threatened, the Emperor of the Known Universe felt the need to overthrow the entire Atreides regime out of fear of a weapon, “using a technique unknown to us, a technique involving sound.” A standard warrior can use a sound amplifier so the weirding module can provide an energy burst with the effectiveness of a laser gun. Mentally superior beings who do not need an amplifier can smash through solid rock or provide a blast the equivalent of a grenade or bomb. Incredibly impacting in the right hands.
5. Han Solo’s Blaster.
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, especially when it’s Solo’s. Check out the size of that barrel. Solo’s blaster feels like a modified bounty hunter weapon, effective both at close range and over long distances. Its unique laser sound intimidates. Small enough to keep strapped to your leg, yet big enough for those around you to notice, its the perfect weapon for any gunslinger to avoid, or get into, trouble.
4. Lightning powers from Big Trouble in Little China.
The other two Storms had their martial arts down, but Lightning’s unique super power, which clearly comes straight from the Gods, is both mesmerizing and deadly. There’s something to be said for supernatural powers that come from within. Bonus: If you have lightning powers, you also receive a complimentary head basket for increased intimidation. So cool.
3. The proton pack from Ghostbusters.
Even though it is powered by an unlicensed nuclear accelerator, and if you cross the streams, you run the risk of having all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light, in other words, total protonic reversal, the Proton Pack is one powerful weapon. It may be a large, heavy, reckless weapon to master, but it packs a punch, and can be used for all sorts of things, from giving Gozer a flat top to scaring innocent hotel staff. It also happens to be the only truly effective weapon known to Man against the paranormal.
2. The Identity Disc from Tron.
The Disc is essentially the heart and soul of the Program digitally encoded, and yet it also makes for a powerful weapon. Acting much like a boomerang, when thrown, the Disc is compelled to return to its Program, and can deflect oncoming disc assaults. The perfect compliment of aggressive offensive attacks with defensive capability. Like the Lightsaber, its effectiveness is dependent on the level of spiritual influence its User possesses. Both its beauty and intimidation lie in its magnificent glow.
1. The Lightsaber from Star Wars.
This was obvious. The Lightsaber is the single most effective and efficient weapon in science fiction history. If wielded properly, it can deflect laser bolts and can slice through just about anything. Feeling frisky? Modify your saber for a dual-blade experience. A great tool during survival scenarios, such as slicing through the bladder of a dead taun-taun to give you warmth, and can just as easily enable you to wipe out entire armies. Such complete and utter power concealed in an, “elegant weapon, for a more civilized age,” as Obi Wan would say.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
