[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Disney California Adventure has walled off the Condor Flats section of the park for a major refurbishment scheduled to open by next summer that will introduce a re-theme of the area to “Grizzly Peak Airfield.”

This will expand the footprint of the much more lushly themed environment of Grizzly Peak, and does away with a desert airstrip concept that never really “took off” with park guests. While Soarin’ over California has remained a popular attraction, the surrounding environment has always been a rather bland, desolate and corny reminder of original incarnation of this park when it opened in 2001.

When Grizzly Peak Airfield opens, expect to find Soarin’ surrounded by rich greenery, tall trees, and a ton of new landscaping. The ride itself will be upgraded to a 4k digital projection system, giving the presentation a much clearer, more crystalline look. This upgraded infrastructure will prepare the attraction for the rumored Soarin’ over the World ride experience being introduced at Shanghai Disneyland when that park opens in 2017.

Disney has not made any official announcements yet with exactly what is to come, but this land expansion opens up a world of possibilities for the future of this section of the park.

In the meantime, a freshening of the ride in its current form is certainly welcome. The re-theme of the area is more than welcome. This is great news.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
